Power, Privilege, & Our Baptismal Covenant

 

A SPECIAL ‘SAFE CHURCH TRAINING’ EVENT OFFERED BY THE OFFICE OF MISSION INTEGRITY & TRAINING

 

Saturday, October 17, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Camp Washington, 190 Kenyon Road, Lakeside, CT

 

     Learn more about how to create a safe and healthy church, one that is welcoming and respects the dignity of all; 

 

     Get equipped to intervene and/or advocate within and beyond your church on behalf of vulnerable individuals and populations;

 

     Understand the dynamics of power and privilege, setting and enforcing boundaries in relationships, and protecting against exploitation and abuse;


Go deeper into one of four specialized topics and ask your questions of experts who are not typically present at other training events.

                          

 

OPENING PRESENTATION:  “Power, Privilege and our Baptismal Covenant”   Presented by Bishop Ian T. Douglas and Canon Robin Hammeal-Urban

 

MORNING SESSION (choose one of four tracks):

1.       Social media: The Rev. Tanya R. Wallace, Rector, All Saints’ Episcopal Church,  South Hadley, MA  

2.       Elder treatment: Erin Y. Burk-Leaver, MPH, MA, Community Advocate, Jewish Senior Services, Fairfield, CT 

3.       LGBTQ 101: Anthony Crisci, Executive Director of Triangle Community Center, Fairfield, CT 

4.       Welcoming differently-abled: Kim Newgass, Director of Outreach & Special Projects, Autism Services & Resources CT

         

AFTERNOON SESSION (choose one of two tracks):

1. Safe Church training - primarily focused on elders and adults 2. Safe Church training - primarily focused on children and youth. 

 

                          

MORE INFORMATION:

       All participants will receive a certificate of Safe Church training. 

       Tours of our Camp and Conference Center will be available. 

       This event is open to everyone, including those not required to attend Safe Church training. Advance registration is required, go to https://basiccompsafechurch101715.eventbrite.com

       There is no fee for this day.  Lunch is included, prepared by the chef for our group.
